2026 Fantasy Football Breakout RBs: Omarion Hampton, Bhayshul Tuten & More! (2026)

Fantasy Football's Future Stars: Unlocking the Potential of 2026's Breakout Running Backs

Welcome to my annual exploration of fantasy football's rising stars, where I delve into the players poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming season. This time, we're focusing on the running backs who could become household names in 2026.

The Elite Four

Let's start with the cream of the crop, the four running backs I believe have the highest potential to break into the top tier.

Omarion Hampton (LAC)

Hampton is a talent to be reckoned with. I've always maintained that the skill gap between him and Ashton Jeanty is minimal, akin to the entry of Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs into the league. Hampton's versatility as a pass-catcher and his bell-cow potential are undeniable. With a healthy and improved Chargers offensive line, he could easily surpass 300 touches. However, there's a catch. The Chargers' run-blocking woes last season were evident, and while Mike McDaniel aims to elevate the offense, Hampton's workload might not reach the desired 70% threshold. Still, his talent and the improved line make him a solid RB1 in my book.

Cam Skattebo (NYG)

Skattebo's drive and potential are impressive, but he faces challenges. Before his injury, he was a top performer, and Greg Roman's success with run games is well-documented. However, Skattebo's injury history and the potential for a shared workload are concerns. If he stays healthy, a mid-RB2 value is within reach, but that's a significant 'if'.

Quinshon Judkins (CLE)

Judkins' performance with the Browns is noteworthy, especially his receiving skills. With a full season and a more favorable offense under Todd Monken and Travis Switzer, he could be a breakout star. However, the Browns' offensive line and quarterback situation might hinder his targets. A 15% increase in FPPG is achievable, but a top-16 spot might be a stretch.

TreVeyon Henderson (NE)

The Patriots' rushing offense is a force, and Henderson has shown glimpses of greatness. However, the Patriots seem content with a dual-threat approach, and Stevenson's bounce-back season complicates Henderson's path to stardom. While a breakout is possible, it's not a certainty.

Quick Hits

Ashton Jeanty (LV)

Jeanty's talent is undeniable, but the Raiders' offensive struggles might limit his impact. An improved offensive line could boost his performance, but reaching the top 10 might be a challenge.

Bhayshul Tuten (JAX)

Tuten's explosiveness and goal-line prowess are intriguing, but a timeshare with Chris Rodriguez could limit his touches. While he's a valuable asset, a breakout season might not be in the cards.

RJ Harvey (DEN)

Harvey's late-season surge was impressive, but he relies heavily on J.K. Dobbins' health and significant volume. A committee backfield under Sean Payton could limit his impact.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt (WAS)

The Commanders' running back situation is intriguing, but Croskey-Merritt faces stiff competition. With Rachaad White's receiving prowess and the potential for a committee approach, his ceiling might be capped.

In the world of fantasy football, predicting breakouts is an art. While these running backs have the talent and potential, various factors can influence their success. From injury concerns to coaching strategies, the path to stardom is rarely straightforward. As we eagerly await the 2026 season, let's keep an eye on these players and the narratives that unfold, as they could shape the fantasy landscape for years to come.
